Back in Town, more New Work!

Had another wood and salt firing out at William Jewel College last weekend.  I shino glazed everything so the teapots could be functional, think we had a strange reduction because I don't see much of the oranges I normally get with that glaze.  BUT we also had parts of the kiln up to CONE 12, and the clay and glaze are both made for CONE 10.

Some of the pots did some shifting around because of how hot it got in there.  The handle on the last one actually moved over so much it separated from the rest of the pot!

I also have just posted some more cups and bowls that I just got out of the kilns at the Kansas City Clay Guild.

Wood/Salt fire the second coming

ooooo baby.

I finally got around to taking pictures of all the cool stuff I got out of the last woodfire I did.

This is a wickedweird series of jars that I made.  They all have multiple lidded openings, some of them are like tube slides in on the sides, and they also have little pockets all over them.

Those three are the only ones not up on my Etsy page right now aside from the few casualties that had broken lids.  Think I lost 5 lids to the cause.... something always breaks/blows up/disappears

Anyway, check out the rest HERE

And for good measure, something brandnewfresh.

BACK IN TOWN BACK IN ACTION

So I've been back from my travels for a couple months now, which is actually pretty weird to think about right now,  BUT I've been able to get a lot of stuff done!

I just got back a TON of work that I had been saving for a wood/salt firing.

Kinda looks like this

My magic girlfriend took off on a big bad roadtrip, so she took her awesome camera.  Soon I will be documenting all my new work with a borrowed camera with any luck!

Also, some of this new work should up up at the Leedy Voulkus this next coming up weekend for eye candy action.

New work and Traveling

In a week from now I'm taking off for a european getaway with my favorite girl in the whole wide world.  I wont be able to update with any new work until the summer, so this is the freshest of fresh right now.

I had been saving A TON of new work for a wood fire in the middle of February, but that got moved to after I've left the country.  SO now my studio looks like this!

Leedy- Voulkos Showing

I have some work in a showing at the Leedy - Voulkos right now.  Some old, some new.

Take a big ol' peek!

First time having any of my work in an actual gallery!  Not so sure how long it'll be up, but at least the month of February.

I'm not so sure that the website has been updated for this month, but here's a link to their website.

New Haul

Hauled a bunch of new work up to the clay guild today.  Had an MLK party in the glaze room.

Here's some goofy pictures of it!

!!!PSYCHEDELIC!!!

As always, more to come.  Hopefully I'll get to put some of this into a wood firing in a couple weeks, but I think we need more work for it!

Dan Loves Dirt

I just set up this blog here to document my loving relationship with DIRT and setting it on fire until it's about 2300 degrees.

And of course by dirt I mean STONEWARE CLAY!

I fell in love with dirt in high school just taking a basic ceramics class.  I ended up taking every class I could for it and skipping most my other classes just to hang out on the wheel all day!  Then I took a couple classes at a community college in KC just to keep playing.  After that I had a two year break from my love with dirt until last spring when I was able to acquire a kick wheel for $15 at a garage sale!

Now me and dirt can be together forever.

Maybe through this representation of my dirt love in the world wide web I can meet some other clay/dirt/ceramics nerds and share some ideas.

These are some of the newer pieces I actually have documented. DEFINITELY MORE TO COME!!

This here is me and my STASH of dirt at the What A Load of Craft fair in Iowa City this past December.  One of the first times I really brought any of my work out of the house!  Had a great response and the whole weekend was a boost in confidence.

This here is a picture of my studio I have in the entry way to the house I'm renting here in KCMO.

I used to have my wheel out on my front porch and work outside all the time.  But where I live in KC there are a lot of SCRAPPERS looking for metal to sell and my whole wheel is probably a gold mine for those freaks, so I decided to keep it safe inside.

And this is ME kicking up some dirt during the first summer after I acquired my wheel.  My girlfriend found it at a garage sale around the corner from my house.  I was able to get the wheel AND a kiln (which I don't think works and haven't been able to try to use) for just $40!!  basically everything I needed to get back to kicking up clay.

A lot of my work is represented on my Etsy page that can be found right here:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/porchpots
